What is a "Just-Right / Good Fit" Book?
In order for students to understand reading and become better readers they must be able to understand and read books at their own level. When a student is motivated to read and understands what they are reading they will find more enjoyment and become less discouraged or frustrated.

5 Finger Check Strategy
We have learned how to use the 5 finger check to choose books. To pick a book, we open it to any page in the book and start reading. When you come to a word we cannot pronounce or determine the meaning, you put one finger up.
1 finger = YES, this book is good, maybe a little easy
2 fingers = YES, this book is perfect, with a little challenge
3 fingers = OK, this book will be a challenge but I could try it because I know most of the words. I might need help.
4 fingers = NO, this book is to difficult for me right now, but I will try it at another time or ask someone to read it to me
5 fingers = NO!, this book is way to hard right now and I will ask some one to read it to me
